Jonah & The Great Fish

God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and warn them about their sin because they were very wicked and God was not pleased.

The Great City of Nineveh

Jonah did not like the people of Nineveh and did not want to listen to God, so he ran away and found a ship that was headed to another land, that way he would not have to go to the evil city.

Jonah finds a ship leaving for another land

The Lord sent a storm upon the ship and every man on board was afraid and the shipmaster told everyone to pray to God so the ship would not sink.

A storm came upon the ship

Jonah told them that he was running from God and they should throw him overboard to get the storm and sea to calm. So they tossed him overboard as he asked.

Jonah Thrown Overboard

As soon as they tossed Jonah overboard, the sea was calm.

The Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fish’s belly.

Jonah prays from the fish’s belly

The Lord spoke unto the fish and commanded it to spit Jonah up onto dry land and Jonah was freed from the fish’s belly.

The word of the Lord came upon him again and told him to go to Nineveh and warn the wicked city that God was going to destroy them if they did not repent from their sin.

Jonah went to Nineveh as God had commanded and told the people that in forty days, Nineveh would be destroyed if they did not repent.

The people of Nineveh believed him and turned to God and asked for forgiveness and God did not destroy the city.

Jonah was a servant of God as we all should be servants of God. There will be times that we are disobedient to God and will be afflicted. But if we pray to God, we shall be delivered, recommissioned and powerful for the Lord.
